Mariel Jana Supka is a performance artist based in London and Berlin. She has worked as a freelance performer in devised theatre, experimental music theatre, and performance art since 2001. Her work is focused on collaborative production processes, which draw from a combination of practical and theoretical enquiry. Mariel has performed in major venues in Germany and Switzerland (Maxim Gorki Theatre Berlin, Hebbel am Ufer (HAU) Berlin, Neumarkt Theater Zürich), at international festivals (Fringe Festival Dublin, Treffpunkte Berlin, Heidelberger Stückemarkt, Musica Polonica Nova Wroclaw), and at numerous independent and underground performance spaces in Berlin and elsewhere in Germany.

Mariel is currently undertaking a funded PhD research project at the University of Roehampton. Her practice-based project Improv[is]ed Dwellings – Performing Worldliness in Encounters with ‘Alien’ Animals engages with scientific and public perceptions of non-native animals.  The project seeks to diversify and complicate generalized negative and distinctive notions of those animals through several practical artistic engagements, which are build on a critical theoretical framework.
